From Travel to Practice: My Ray-Ban Meta Glasses Story

Why AI glasses are a smart match for all patients and belong in every office

Last summer in Spain, I went on a tour at the Church of Santa Maria la Mayor in Talavera de la Reina. No one spoke English, and I struggled with Spanish translation. I had Ray-Ban Meta glasses, and the tour guide did too. In a matter of seconds, we were able to make a connection to proceed through the tour. We could understand and communicate with each other.

The tour guide, at center pointing out the window, also had AI glasses, bridging a gap in communication on the Church of Santa Maria la Mayor tour.

It was a moment to witness some of the impressive features beyond those that many people notice first: the ability to listen to music, take videos and pictures, answer phone calls and texts.

EXPERIENCING AN EVOLUTION OF TECHNOLOGY

I jumped on board early with Ray-Ban Stories technology. I’m a futuristic kind of person. I like gadgets and new things, and when something exciting comes along, I want to be the first to adopt it.

With Transitions and sunglass lens options, I found it to be an outstanding personal solution for capturing images while skiing, fishing and spending time with my family and making memories. I also loved the audio features and listening to music.

When Ray-Ban Meta came out, it had a lot of enhancements, including longer battery life and many fantastic features. I gravitated to that and used it a lot, then moved into Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, Oakley Meta and Ray-Ban Meta.

REAL-WORLD IMPACT

While I just recently started using AI glasses as my primary pair of eyewear, I’ve been enjoying sharing my experience with others for the past year on my practice page as well as my personal Instagram page. I post the high-quality videos I take when I’m golfing and at sporting and music events. Just a few weeks ago in Italy, I shared my viewpoint during a cooking class and while sightseeing on the Italian coast.

The glasses are a conversation starter, both in the office and outside of it. When I’m picking up my dry cleaning or at a social event, people ask, “Are those the Ray-Ban Meta glasses?” That gives me a chance to talk about how I use them, and then they come to the practice for the technology and vision care.

With more wearing time, I’m tapping into more of the practical benefits of this technology. For example, sometimes hearing in a large ambient sound room can be challenging. I use the glasses “conversation focus” feature so I can understand more clearly. I’m a big fan and user, and I like to offer that experience to others.

This eyewear also meets the needs of a lot of patients with medical eye care problems, low vision concerns or reduced vision. AI can enhance their vision for reading menus and signs and can even translate foreign language text.

HOW TO STAND OUT WITH AN AI PRACTICE

If you want to stand out, I believe in a pair for every patient: style plus vision. That means offering different options such as Ray-Ban Meta, Ray-Ban Meta Optics with Transitions and Oakley Meta.

Be a believer and share your excitement for using it. Make sure your staff is educated and understands the technology, as well. We also lean into Vision Source Learning Powered by Leonardo and frequently use that for Meta training and training for other products, too

We have an AI glasses display in our optical featuring several live Ray-Ban and Oakley Meta frames. Our opticians can demonstrate the AI wearable technology using in-office iPads installed with the Meta AI app. This allows the patient to connect and experience the wearable AI technology immediately while in our optical.

We also keep multiple demo frames without electronics so patients can try different styles, shapes, lenses and colors. Allowing patients to try on different options improves their willingness to purchase.

We are also gaining new patients because they know we prescribe prescription lenses for Meta glasses. For those who purchased them elsewhere, we can work with our lab to add prescription lenses to their current RayBan and Oakley Meta frames.

THE AI REVOLUTION IS HERE

Patients don’t need to go to a big-box store or online retailer. There’s an opportunity for independent ECPs to own the space.

If you don’t have this technology, patients will get it somewhere else. Lean into this new eyewear experience. There’s no reason to sit on the sidelines and miss out
